Madison County has been awarded federal funds made available through the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)/Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) under the Emergency Food and Shelter (EFSP) National Board program to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county. Phase 38 has been awarded $54,071. This award is based upon unemployment and poverty rates at the national average.

Anderson University has recently appointed Mike Thigpen as the chief diversity officer within the university’s Cabinet. AU’s MOSAIC team recommended that Thigpen fulfill this role to help champion the university’s intercultural engagement efforts.

Anderson University is officially announcing esports as a part of its athletics program. The team will begin competing in the fall of 2020. Esports, short for electronic sports, is a form of sport competition using video games. It usually takes the form of organized, multiplayer video game competitions individually or as teams.

Volunteer tax coaches are available to help individuals file taxes on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursday at the Anderson Impact Center, 630 Nichol Ave., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Area VITA Program can help those who need someone to prepare their taxes.

In December 2019, our CEO, Lisa Miller, submitted her letter of resignation to the Board of Directors effective March 31, 2020. 

Lisa has served First Choice diligently for over 6 years and we truly appreciate her passion and dedication to this ministry. Her passion and love for First Choice has not diminished, but she has had a number of significant life changes in the past couple of years that have brought her to this decision. We are grateful for her leadership and the vision she has provided during her time at First Choice and we wish her the very best as she focuses on her family. We know this is an honorable and Godly decision that was reached through much prayer and consideration. Lisa has expressed a desire to stay involved in the ministry in some capacity and we will welcome her many talents.
