The Madison County Chamber has released the data collected from membership feedback on top priorities for the $48 million received by the City of Anderson and Madison County Government from the American Rescue Plan Act(ARPA). These results speak directly to the need for various infrastructure upgrades as well as other needs in our community. At the Chamber, we are continuing to advocate for collaborative cross-sector initiatives for long-term sustainable project efforts with technical assistance and support to launch and implement.

Anderson University has announced three new hires for leadership positions on campus.

Lonnie Leeper is the new dean of the Falls School of Business, James Bell is the new director of the Nicholson Library, and Elizabeth Imafuji is the new dean of the School of Humanities, Education, and Behavioral Science. Leeper has been promoted to the dean of the Falls School of Business after serving as the undergraduate program director and associate professor of finance since 2020 when he arrived at AU. Prior to AU, Leeper spent eight years at the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana. At USF, Leeper earned the Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership award for 2017-18. He is a 2005 graduate of Purdue University and holds a Master’s and Doctorate of Business Administration from Anderson University.

Anderson University has recently appointed Mike Thigpen as the chief diversity officer within the university’s Cabinet. AU’s MOSAIC team recommended that Thigpen fulfill this role to help champion the university’s intercultural engagement efforts.

Thigpen started his career at AU as the director of the Cultural Resource Center (CRC) in August of 2015. The mission of the CRC is to educate all students, both domestic and international, toward intercultural curiosity, humility, and learning. As director of the CRC,

Anderson University is officially announcing esports as a part of its athletics program. The team will begin competing in the fall of 2020. Esports, short for electronic sports, is a form of sport competition using video games. It usually takes the form of organized, multiplayer video game competitions individually or as teams.

On the football field, LeCedus Thompson understood that it takes all eleven men to drive a football down the field toward success. Today, Thompson parleys that same drive into helping those with disabilities achieve their own successes.

Phoenix Community Services is all about help. Since December of 1997, the company founded by Dr. Andres Pichardo, Dr. Lorenzo Eli and Margaret Davis has been assisting individuals with mental disabilities to function on their own. For Thompson, however, the road wound past football and into an entirely different field.
